Position overview:
Seeking a hands-on Accounting Analyst III who blends deep finance knowledge with expert technical build skills. This role is the delivery engine for our efficiency mandate. You will receive prioritized opportunities and be accountable for building, testing, and deploying solutions that eliminate manual effort in areas like month end close, reconciliations, and reporting, all while ensuring controls are embedded and maintained. This role focuses on development, optimization, and deployment.
Key responsibilities:
Opportunities implementation
- Design and build solutions for financial optimization
- Develop, test, and deploy solutions for reconciliations, journal entry processes, data validation routines, and other quick wins that streamline financial operations.
- Automate controls and exception handling into financial workflows
- Working with the automation teams across TELUS, integrate automation solutions
- Create and maintain technical documentation and process documentation for audit purposes
Financial process analysis & optimization
- Lead process optimization initiatives to eliminate redundant flows and process waste before automation is applied
- Map current state financial processes and design optimized future state workflows
- Collaborate with accounting teams and other finance stakeholders to understand pain points and ensure smooth solution adoption
- Track and report on efficiency gains, time savings, and error reduction metrics
Financial systems & data management
- Extract, transform, and load financial data from multiple systems for use in automation
- Develop automated reports and dashboards for financial analysis
- Monitor automation performance and provide ongoing maintenance and enhancement of deployed solutions

Qualifications:
Finance/Accounting experience
- 5+ years of experience in accounting, finance, or financial analysis roles
- Strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP/IFRS) and financial processes
- Hands-on experience with month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Knowledge of internal controls and SOX compliance requirements
- Experience working with ERP systems (SAP, Workday, or similar)
Technical skills
- Proficiency with automation tools (Power Automate, UiPath, Automation Anywhere, or similar)
- Advanced Excel skills including macros, VBA, Power Query, and pivot tables
- Experience with scripting/programming languages (Python, SQL, or similar)
- Ability to build automated workflows and bots from scratch
- Strong data analysis and manipulation skills
- Familiarity with financial systems APIs and integrations

- Analytical mindset with problem-solving ability to translate finance needs into technical solutions
- Excellent communication skills to bridge finance and technical teams

Preferred qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA, CMA, or other professional accounting certification
- Experience with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau) or data visualization
- Knowledge of Python for financial data analysis
- Lean Six Sigma certification
- Experience with cloud-based financial systems
- Background in corporate accounting environments
